The Search for Anisotropy in the Arrival Directions of Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays Observed by the High Resolution Fly’s Eye Detector in Monocular Mode

چکیده

The High Resolution Fly’s Eye HiRes-I detector has now been in operation in monocular mode for over six years. During that time span, HiRes-I has accumulated a larger exposure to Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) above 10 eV than any other experiment built to date. This presents an unprecedented opportunity to search for anisotropy in the arrival directions of UHECRs. We present results of a search for dipole distributions oriented towards major astrophysical landmarks and a search for small-scale clustering. We conclude that the HiRes-I data set is, in fact, consistent with an isotropic source model.

Anisotropy studies of ultra - high energy cosmic rays as observed by the High Resolution Fly ’ s Eye ( HiRes )

Although the existence of cosmic rays with energies extending to 320 EeV has been confirmed , their origin remains one of the most important questions in particle astrophysics research today. The High–Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) is the largest aperture detector currently collecting data from ultra-high energy cosmic ray events. We present for the first time anisotropy studies from monocular an...

Search for cross-correlations of ultra–high-energy cosmic rays with BL Lacertae objects

The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment is a stereo air fluorescence detector for the study of cosmic rays with energies above 5×10 eV. Arrival directions of cosmic rays observed in stereo can be resolved with a typical uncertainty on the order of 0.5◦, making the experiment ideal for small-scale anisotropy studies. Here we present the results of searches for correlation with astronomi...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE HiRes Limits on Point-Like Sources of Cosmic Rays with Energy Above 10 eV

Point-like excesses have been alternately claimed and refuted in the direction of Cygnus X-3, BL-Lacertae objects, and others. We conduct a search for point-like deviations from isotropy in the arrival direction of ultra-high energy cosmic rays in the monocular data set collected by the High-Resolution Fly’s Eye. We find no evidence for point-like excesses and place a 90% c.l. upper limit of 0....
